AT LAST I AM GOING TO MAKE A CANNABIS BEER!

While Covid-19 has severely challenged most businesses, it has also presented some positive outcomes. For me, it has provided time to mull over what I do next – and I have decided to launch a new beer at last. Cannabis beer!
After years of toying with the idea (but never really having the courage to delve into the deep underworld of doing something illegal) the change in the law, combined with an unexpected gift in the form of a very expensive box of Cannabis, presented me with an opportunity not-to-be-missed.
Firstly, why did I even think about using Cannabis? Well, Cannabis is a close relative to the hop plant. Grown around the world, following the latitudes of the UK, Europe, America, New Zealand, Tasmania and the Southern Cape, hops offer no hallucinogenic effect, but is vital in giving our beer its distinctive bitter aromatic properties, and is that secret ingredient that makes one beer taste like more.
It’s one thing getting intoxicated from too much beer and downright dangerous to combine it with the hallucinogenic effects of Cannabis. So, when Thabo from Indalo Botanicals presented me with a box of wonderfully different aromatic Hemp Flowers, it could not have come at a better time.
He advised that the marijuana/hemp had been carefully cultivated and had CBD (Can·na·bid·i·ol) properties and not THC [tet′′rah-hi′′dro-kah-nab ́ĭ-nol]. It is only recently, with so many people using Hemp as a medicinal alternative to many ailments, that I became aware that in a nutshell, THC has the active ingredients that make you feel “high” effects and CBD does not.
Thabo also presented some smartly packaged hemp tea, designed in Chintsa. What an impressive product! The product is better than the packaging – wonderfully aromatic and easy- drinking, and perfect with a dash of honey and lemon. The best part is waking up the next morning after a deep and peaceful sleep. So, this has convinced me to give making a hemp beer a go.
They say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Of course, I own a brewery so as we all try to claw our way back into normality, I look forward to experimenting with a new beer instead. Something I have not done in a long time.
