Call-2-Action Partnership continues for 3 more years

The Call-2-Action began as a collective business discussion on remedying to some of the “crime and grime” issues that plague Buffalo City. After weeks of deliberations, a consensus was reached to collaborate with the publics sector. This culminated into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Business, spear-headed by the Border-Kei Chamber of Business (BKCOB), Buffalo City Metro (BCM) and Buffalo City Metro Development Agency (BCMDA).

The MOU between the three entities was signed in 2016 outlining the roles and responsibilities of each partner. Four pilot areas were identified – Settlers Way; Quigney; Oxford Street and Southernwood. Due to financial constraints, only the first two precincts were activated. Over the last 20 months, 450tons of recyclables were collected and redirected away from landfill as well as R400 000 injected back into the local waste economy through SMMEs and waste pickers.

The MOU between the three entities is to be extended for a further three years, with committed funding from the public sector to match the donations given by the private sector, and so activating the final two precincts.
