Bigfoot and Gately Rotary Club were delighted with the participation of the East London community in yet another successful fun run. The annual event encourages fellowship and raises awareness of the work being done to eradicate polio.
Rotary, along with their partners, has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide since their first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. While polio is a distant memory in most parts of the world, the disease still exists in some places and mainly affects children under the age of 5. Those that joined the walk on Friday evening made a global impact to protect children from polio forever. Rotarians have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. A special thank you to the participants and our sponsors BigFoot, AON, PWC, Total Beacon Bay, Glacier Water, Isringhausen, Harrys Printers, RRN, Vibracoustic Ikhwezi and Shakatak.
