On Saturday the 29th of September 2018 a fund-raising event was held at the East London Aquarium hosted by the Fine & Fabulous Market in conjunction with the Ocean Lifeline Project.
This event was all about celebrating the re-opening of the aquarium after the recent storm damage. It was a fantastic day, where fun & fantasy blended awareness and education about sea life and ocean conservation. There was a selection of some of Fine & Fabulous’s favourite vendors suitable to the kiddie & family-friendly focus, with a variety of crafters, makers and creators, with all of the small businesses getting into the fishy spirit. There were mermaid jewellery pieces, aquatic-inspired decorated cupcakes and biscuits, eco-friendly decor items and reusable stainless steel straws, shark-themed crafting sessions, face painting and even a visit from some of the dancers who featured in the latest show, The Last Straw, which focuses around the effects of rubbish in our oceans. East London came out and truly got behind this initiative, and over 200 annual family subscriptions were sold on the day.
These funds will go directly back to FELA (Friends of the East London Aquarium) who are constantly in desperate need of funds to improve and upgrade the facility, as well as to provide medical care to injured sea life and to act as an information hub teaching children about the ocean and why we need to protect it. The Fine & Fabulous Markets pop up around East London, showcasing different venues with different themes and benefiting different charities.
